India-Russia To Sign Deal For S-400 Air Defence Missile System

Rosoboronexport, Russia’s weapons giant expects to sign the agreement with India on the delivery of S-400 Triumf air defence system very soon.

An agreement was signed for S-400 antiaircraft missiles for India between the Russian and Indian governments in October 2016. Pre Contract preparations are underway on the supplies of the S-400 anti-aircraft missile complexes to India. Russia also sold S-400 air defence system to China, the deliveries of which will start soon.

About S-400 Missile Defence System

  • The S-400 Triumf are one of the most advances air defence system in the world with a range of 400 Km and are very critical to India to protect its borders against any aircraft, UAV or missiles.
  • The S-400 can engage targets of various types and ranges and can fool Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft.
  • S-400 is an improved variant of S-300 missile defence system with improved radar and range.
  • It is capable of firing three types of missiles providing a layered defence shield.

India is expected to get 5 regiments of S-400 missile defence system with a deal expected to be close to $ 5 billion. These missiles will be used to protect Indian borders both with Pakistan and China.
