India established diplomatic ties with Israel in 1992 and since than both the countries have collaborated in defence, agriculture & many other sectors and enjoy great economic, military & strategic ties.
Both the countries have moved a long way, not just in the defence sector and the trade between the 2 countries is estimated to be close to $ 5 Billion. Israel over a period of time has become India’s one of the biggest supplier of defence equipments. The two countries are close to finalising the Spike anti-tank guided missile deal.
Israel has grown tremendously not just in the defence technology but also in areas like agriculture & technology. India has already been collaborating with Israel in the field of agriculture on some projects in Olive plantations. Israel has a very good IT industry supporting start ups and India should also try to explore more opportunities of collaboration in the field of technology and can also learn on how to build a great start up ecosystem to accelerate the pace of research & innovation.
Modi government has done a lot after coming to power in strengthening the relations with US & Israel and the upcoming Modi’s visit to Israel will boost the diplomatic ties between the two countries. Both the countries share many principles and it looks as if the relationship is bound to grow strong in the coming years.
